Are you concerned about your child’s speech and language development and wondering whether they need a full evaluation? A consultation and/or a screener will help you and the therapist decide.
Consultations are free, 15- minute phone calls where you tell us more about your child. If your child is old enough to sit at a computer and answer some questions, a brief screener may be conducted, as well.

Caretaker Coaching
Are you concerned that your child may not be developing their speech and language skills as they should be?
Maybe someone else has told you to “wait and see” a little longer?
Or perhaps a previous evaluation has demonstrated a delay that is not sufficient to warrant therapy services?
I offer caretaker coaching to show you tips and strategies you can be providing your child at home that best support their communicative development.
Evaluations
An evaluation takes an in- depth, comprehensive look at your child and seeks to identify areas of strengths and weaknesses. An evaluation is composed of two parts: 1. a clinical assessment and 2. a written report that explains the assessment’s results in detail.

If you are concerned about your child’s ability to follow directions, speak in sentences, or answer questions, a language evaluation may be recommended.

If you are concerned about your child’s ability to produce specific speech sounds or be understood by others, a speech evaluation may be recommended.

If you are concerned about both your child’s speech and language development, a comprehensive speech & language evaluation may be recommended.

If you are concerned that your child may be stuttering, a fluency evaluation may be recommended.
Therapy
Once an evaluation has identified a speech/ language delay or disorder, you and your SLP can collaborate to identify therapeutic goals for your child.
Therapy sessions at Palabras Speech Therapy are 1:1, offering maximal support to your child, and are 50 minutes in length with 10 minutes set aside at the end for debriefing and consultation. Therapy sessions may be in person or over telehealth, depending on your child’s individual needs.

School District Evaluations
Only a certified bilingual speech- language pathologist is qualified to conduct and make diagnostic/ eligibility decisions with bilingual students during SPED evaluations. Marianna Rivera has a Professional Educators License as well as a Bilingual Special Education- Spanish endorsement from the Illinois State Board of Education.
